I believe one of life’s greatest joys is being able to understand and feel understood by those who hold important parts in our lives. Many of our greatest joys and deepest sorrows take place within these relationships. As a Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) student intern, I am currently working towards completing my graduate training with Capella University. Because of the MFT lens that I look through, I work from a systemic and relational perspective, recognizing that we each are deeply influenced by our relationships, family patterns, culture, and life experiences. Some of the greatest efforts we will make in and for our lives will be in the relationships, the associations, and the connections we have with others.

Healing most often happens within safe and supportive connections. I will strive to create this collaborative space where you can feel heard, respected, and empowered. Helping individuals, couples, and families better understand and navigate the twists and turns of relationship challenges, life transitions, communication difficulties, and emotional distress is something I have a great depth of feeling for. By valuing authenticity and empathy, my desire is to honor your unique story.

As a student intern, I am supervised by Jessica Lechlak, LMFT, Alyssia Haymond, LMHC, Lex Scott, LMFT, and Todd Workman Jesness, PhD, LMFT. I am committed to ethical, thoughtful, and culturally humble client-centered care.

In my free time, I enjoy morning walks, eating great food with my husband (recommendations are always accepted), and being a mom to three almost-adult boys! I love hiking and mt. biking in all areas of WA and OR, and especially appreciate downtime reading “cozy murder mysteries” set in 1920s England.

Q&A with Angela

1.) Some therapists are more comfortable addressing the immediate problem, while others want to focus on the deeper issue. Which are you?

Addressing immediate problems or deeper issues really depends on what the client’s goals are when coming into therapy. As we get to know each other and build a trusting relationship, this will be a journey we will decide together.

2.) Do you tend to lead the session, or follow my lead?

In the beginning, I will lead the session to ensure goals are identified, expressed, and planned for. This can be kept the same or adjusted to continue to meet client needs.

3.) What are your strengths as a therapist?

As a therapist, I believe I am a strong and curious listener; I want to understand. I value diversity and bring sincere compassion.

4.) If you had one superpower, what would it be and why?

I love to travel, so my superpower would be the ability to understand and speak all languages and dialects.

5.) What makes you laugh?

Watching home videos from when I was a teenager.

6.) Who would you have dinner with, dead or alive?

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be Hyrum Smith (deceased) or my Husband (alive).
